Vince Gilligan Discloses He Has a Plan for How Pluribus Will Conclude... Currently.

The creative mastermind could not have predicted that his new science-fiction series would become a massive hit. “God bless the fans,” Gilligan says. “I did not foresee the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

Now that Season 1 of the acclaimed program reaching its finale—and a second season greenlit and underway—the writers' room reflected on the viewer reception and whether it will influence the future direction of Pluribus.

Regarding the Incredible Viewer Reception

Anyone might to get distracted by the constant speculation and audience predictions about Pluribus. He is striving to avoid both.

“It feels like force fed something incredibly sweet and being in a state of bliss,” he explains. “It's amazing, but I get wind of it from others, and that's intentional. I have never Googled myself, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a deep trap I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Regardless of trying to stay away, there’s no way to avoid the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to accept it graciously and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We don't try to change the plot,” says Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not influenced by audience chatter.”

“It's wiser to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan concludes.

The Central Mystery: Has Vince Gilligan Have a Plan for the Finale of Pluribus?

Considering the creative staff are not listening by audience theories, does it imply they already know how Pluribus will finally conclude? Essentially yes… sort of.

“We've developed some potential directions about where the show might end up,” Gilligan reveals. “but we are always ready to throw out a good idea for a more brilliant plan. That philosophy has guided us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we find a more perfect path and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Then again, if all else fails, Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to fall back on.

“I constantly suggest that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and the characters are inside it,” Smith quips, “but no one is buying it.”

Alternatively, why not reference the classics?

“I'd love for Carol to wake up in bed beside Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV+.
