This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Spared by Miami Dade County Mayor.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as sparing festive fowl, but the county's top official experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term.
“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future without fear.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a first responder, was christened after the current slang trend of young people shouting “6-7” – inspired by a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently made “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the character of Miami: joyful, varied, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Every time, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and strong coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
