The former Liverpool manager admits coming back to coach Liverpool is conceivable.
The German coach, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, indicated that a future comeback is a possibility. Klopp, after a transformative near-decade reign which brought a European Cup triumph and the Premier League crown in 30 years, currently occupies positions overseeing worldwide football within the Red Bull organization and in an advisory capacity with the German Football League.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
They secured the Premier League last season, though countless followers who adore the manager would be thrilled by the idea of his potential comeback. In a wide-ranging interview, he explained to Steven Bartlett: “I stated I refuse to lead a different club in England. So that means in case it's my former club...yeah. It's plausible.”
“I’m 58, which suggests I might decide down the line, I don’t know. Must I choose now? If so, I wouldn't return. Fortunately, no such pressure exists. I'll simply watch what lies ahead.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
When asked about what circumstances must arise to tempt his return to management, Klopp admitted he was not instantly drawn to such a return. “It's unclear to me, I enjoy my current role,” he stated. “No longing for management; I avoid standing under bad weather through long matches; I don’t miss going to press conferences four times, three times a week or having 10-12 interviews each week.
“The locker room isn't missed in that context, but sitting in a restaurant alongside the squad enjoying conversation, that’s nice. We won a lot of games thus frequently positive atmosphere at the club. Remaining with me is the captain's chuckle ringing in my ears as an instance.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly regarding Arne Slot, praising him for the tweaks that won the league last term. Liverpool have lost four in a row in all competitions post heavy investment, though he denied the suggestion of it representing a decline.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, you will all eat your words with negative comments. A remarkable prospect. Ekitike, incredible player. This is a well-built well-judged squad. You don’t have to worry over the club, they will be fine.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally about the death of Diogo Jota, whom he brought in during his tenure, and its impact at the club. The forward was killed in a road accident alongside his brother this past summer.
“Who can fill the void of a person like him? It’s not about the player himself, it’s the guy he was. I struggle to conceive the squad without him in it. Putting it into words is tough regarding this. A profound tragedy for the entire squad also. Not a single person might employ it as an excuse though it's a fact. You walk in a dressing room where he was omnipresent. Handling this individually is difficult. Unbearable.”
