R360 Competition Players Subject to 10-Year Exclusion from National Rugby League
Roger Tuivasa-Sheck gained 20 international appearances for the Kiwis before switching allegiance to the Samoan team.
The NRL's governing body has stated that athletes who join the “rebel” R360 will be barred for 10 seasons.
R360, set to start in 2026, is seeking to lure players from union and league with lucrative deals and a reduced fixture list.
Leading National Rugby League athletes have reportedly received offers by R360, which will feature six or eight men's teams and four women's teams located in large metropolitan areas around the world.
The Samoan the player, who represents New Zealand Warriors in the league, has said he has had negotiations involving the new organization.
Ryan Papenhuyzen, Lomax, Payne Haas and Jye Gray are also reported to be thinking about signing the rebel league.
Several leading rugby union countries, including Australia, recently imposed a prohibition on R360 recruits appearing in test matches.
“We heard our clubs and we've acted decisively,” stated the league's chief the official.
“Unfortunately, there will continually be entities that seek to pirate our code for potential financial gain.
“They avoid funding in pathways or the development of talent. They merely capitalize on the dedication of others, jeopardizing careers of monetary damage while benefiting financially.
“Essentially, they are, counterfeiting a code.”
The league is launched by retired international Mike Tindall and backed by independent financiers.
Subsequent to the prospective rugby union prohibitions were declared last week, it commented: “We seek to cooperate in partnership as part of the international rugby schedule.
“The competition is designed with customized calendars for men's and women's teams and R360 will release all players for international matches, as written into their deals.”
R360 will apply for endorsement for its plans from World Rugby, rugby union's regulatory group, at its council meeting next year.
