The former UK leader, kicked off the first edition of her online program with a pledge to expose "malicious actors" striving to weaken Western democracies. She stated she would reveal how an "international network of leftists function to subvert democracy and the electorate's mandate."

"Our focus will be on the Maga phenomenon and understand how it can be accomplished in Britain," the former PM stated. "Our guests will include the prominent voices of the Make America Great Again campaign."

Prior to the show's launch, there was a notably ardent backer. "This marks the start of a type of revolution," remarked veteran reporter John Solomon. The right-leaning Just the News platform will host the ex-PM's new audio shows.

Establishing Ties in the Maga Media Ecosystem

UK-based allies, featuring a pro-Reform adviser, played a role in her establish the Liz Truss Show. The production is professional, if basic. The show has attracted ten thousand followers in her first week and her debut garnered tens of thousands of views across the same period.

It is a modest start, but in making common cause with Solomon, Truss is being thrust into a mature conservative ecosystem creating and spreading pro-Trump narratives. Key fixations include alleged censorship by the mainstream media and a desire to remove a conspiratorial 'deep state' – which Truss blames for the swift end of her short and troubled leadership.

"Just the News is not well-known beyond the pro-Trump media sphere, but it does have credibility there, primarily thanks to John Solomon, who provides analysis on Maga platforms like the program hosted by Steve Bannon and has even interviewed the former president," said Alex Hinton, who has analyzed the Trumpist political wave.

A Contentious Ally

Her effort to transplant American conservative media to the UK has pushed her closer to controversial figures such as Solomon.

He set up his media outlet in the wake of backlash following accusations of pushing misleading narratives about Biden's anti-corruption work in Ukraine, as well as disputed reports about ex-ambassador to the region.

These allegations were amplified across the pro-Trump outlets, with he serving as a frequent visitor on the widely-watched Fox News show. The former president personally endorsed the journalist's work.

He wrote the allegations regarding Ukraine in a number of opinion pieces for the political newspaper the Hill, after having been moved to a columnist role after colleagues complained regarding his reporting. These reports were pivotal in Trump's demand for the officials in Kyiv to probe the Biden family in 2019. This pressure led to impeachment proceedings against Trump. The Senate later acquitted the then-president.

Shortly after the journalist departed the publication in late 2019, the news organization stated it was performing a review of his reporting about the Ukraine issue. It determined he had cited untrustworthy contacts and noted he "did not disclose important details about primary contacts in Ukraine, specifically the detail that they had been indicted or were the subject of inquiries."

Joining the Network

Solomon's own media appearances are a example of the political media environment Truss is entering. Solomon mentioned his support for her new show on a broadcast he helps run on the right-wing channel, a conservative television outlet that is the base for the pro-Trump commentator Steve Bannon and on which commentator Tucker Carlson also appears. She has already interviewed Steve Bannon on an early episode.

In linking up with this media figure, Truss has become a niche participant in a broader ecosystem of right-wing publications that often amplify each other's content.

Solomon's own broadcasts have often featured personalities such as Mike Benz, a conservative commentator whose criticism of the foreign aid agency was used by the tech billionaire as justification for shutting down the government body.

A Cross-Border Foray

While Truss's stilted style and career difficulties have been mocked within the UK, certain American analysts do not dismiss her efforts to reinvent herself as a British branch of the pro-Trump media ecosystem.

"You have to take individuals such as her seriously, despite the fact that you may not want to take them literally," said Rob Flaherty, who served in the Biden White House.

"You saw how in the last election cycle Donald Trump leveraged that media network to disseminate his views. Certainly that network exports and influences debate abroad. It appears fairly obvious to me that the conditions in the UK are akin to what enabled this alternative media ecosystem to flourish here."

Alan Finlayson, said the digital right-wing media sphere was already making its presence felt in the United Kingdom.

"Online platforms is borderless," Finlayson remarked. "There's a kind milieu within which stuff flows – on occasion taking an extreme form and other times more moderately – but which is connected."

Hinton said the expansion of the digital conservative movement in the UK in recent times meant the "potential to have a growing impact is significant."
