Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will be OK after being shot in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn shared that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “in good spirits” during their recent conversation.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His wife and child, they are holding up and he is expected to recover fully.”

It remained unclear when Boyd would leave the hospital, where his condition is described as serious yet stable.

“Not certain at the moment,” Glenn remarked. “Yet I must mention, hearing him speak, he seemed very positive. Furthermore, that’s what gives me comfort, that he feels like that and he’s talking that way.”

New York police issued surveillance images earlier this week of a man sought in the shooting of Boyd. The reason behind the incident remains under investigation and authorities said it is unknown if Boyd was the intended victim. No other injuries were reported.

The attack took place just after 2am on Sunday morning near Madison Square Garden and Times Square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was admitted to Bellevue Hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, according to authorities. The shooter fled the scene.

Glenn said Boyd has been on his mind “a ton” since he heard about the shooting. Glenn added that Boyd and his wife are new parents to a baby.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he just had a kid,” Glenn noted. “I thought of his spouse, considering his child and my priority is his well-being. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There’s a process to this, I’ll keep private, but I am pleased that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd did not participate in the present campaign, his first with the Jets, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on 18 August with an injury to his shoulder that required surgery.

Boyd came to New York as a free agent in spring and was projected as an important component of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and ST coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during a training camp practice on 2 August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad all season long while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn said. “In fact, he comes to the games all the time. His commitment is total. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, a Texas native, spent his initial four years with Minnesota after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in the 2019 draft. He joined Arizona in 2023 and moved to Houston’s squad subsequently. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal worth $1.6m with the Jets in March.
