Government Official Confirms Ministry of Defence Examining Potential Threat from Vehicles from China, with Personnel Advised to Refrain from Secret Talk in Vehicles.

An defence minister has confirmed that the MoD is currently investigating the possible security risks posed by Chinese-made vehicles, and personnel have been advised to avoid talking about secret matters in all cars.

Safety Advice for Defence Personnel

In a recent interview on a radio station, a defence minister addressed reports that MoD officials have been instructed not to talk about secret information while riding in Chinese vehicles.

The minister stated that the ministry is “examining” Chinese vehicles within its fleets, however stressed that safety is a issue in all modern vehicles.

We have a fleet of thousands of vehicles in the MoD and Chinese ones account for a tiny fraction.
But whether you’re driving a vehicle from China or a car from another country, our instruction to our people is to avoid connecting MoD devices into their car, to avoid having conversations at a classified level in any vehicle, due to the increasing threats of eavesdropping that are present in every single vehicle, to restrict those confidential conversations in secure locations. This is a wise and sensible thing for everyone concerned about security.

After it was suggested that it would be wise for the ministry to stop using all Chinese vehicles, the minister responded: ‘That’s exactly what we are looking into at the present time.”

Broader Security Background

The revelation follows reports from Norway and Denmark have warned the United Kingdom to the presence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese electric buses, which could allow the Chinese government to disable public transport and bring chaos to transport systems.

Furthermore, a Russian spy ship was reportedly shining laser beams at Royal Air Force aircrew, described as a “highly dangerous” act by defence officials.

This broader defence environment highlights the significance of robust measures and caution in all aspects of government activities, including transport usage to communication habits.
