Fans Call for Arrest of Man Who Seized Ariana Grande
Loyal supporters of the pop star are demanding that a man who leaped a fence and grabbed the actress during Thursday's Wicked: For Good launch be arrested or removed from Singapore.
A circulating clip reveals the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing camera operators and charging at Grande while the performers proceeded down a event pathway flanked by supporters.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo quickly wrested the shocked actress away from Mr Wen, who was observed being escorted out of the gathering by guards.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "free after being arrested", though official papers indicated that he was scheduled to be present on Friday morning. It is unknown if he was formally accused.
Record of Event Invasions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Controversial Figure", has disrupted a celebrity gathering. His Instagram feed includes videos of him interrupting other star-studded functions, including jumping on stage at Katy Perry's Sydney performance in June this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers performance in the same location last December.
"Steps should be implemented taken against him as this is evidently a punishable act," stated an Instagram follower, in a response to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his act.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" another Instagram user wrote.
Fans Express Concern Over Ariana's Past Trauma
Many followers criticized Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had revealed experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder after a terrorist explosion at the conclusion of her 2017 performance in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and harming many.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" wrote one more message on Instagram.
Some supporters also faulted security officers at the premiere for not being vigilant enough; while others requested social media platforms to block Mr Wen's videos.
Aftermath and Event Details
In videos circulating online, Grande appeared startled when she was approached by the intruder. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed reassuring her while Mr Wen was removed by staff.
Grande has not issued a statement on the incident, and the remaining proceedings proceeded as normal.
Many of fans had assembled in a crowd of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific launch in a Singapore shopping center, including several who had queued for as long as a significant duration before it commenced.
The movie, to be launched on the 21st of November, is the follow-up of a two-film interpretation of the popular Broadway and West End musical Wicked, which focuses on the unlikely bond between two contrasting witches.
The production itself is a spin-off of the classic story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was decked out in a champagne pink sparkling outfit at the premiere while Erivo, who acts as the wicked witch, wore a elegant ensemble featuring roses.
They were accompanied by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the top-earning movie of the previous year in the UK, and received ten Academy Award nods, winning several for outstanding attire and artistic direction.
