Democrats Condemn Trump After He Claims They Should Face Death Penalty

Democratic officials demonstrated anger after former President Donald Trump charged a contingent of Democratic legislators of being "betrayers" and stated they should be arrested and penalized "through capital punishment" following their release of a controversial video.

The Content That Provoked the Debate

The video footage, released on earlier this week, includes six Democratic lawmakers who formerly served in defense or security roles.

"Like us, you all swore an pledge to protect and defend this founding document," the officials declared in the short video. "At present, the dangers to our governing document are not only from abroad, but from within our own country. Our regulations are explicit, you can refuse illegal orders, you can refuse illegal orders, you must reject improper directives. No one has to execute directives that break the statutes or our national charter."

The Former President's Angry Response

The clip appeared to trigger a furious reaction from the ex-president.

On the following morning, Trump wrote on his social media platform: "It's called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these turncoats to our United States should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In an additional post, he stated: "This is really bad, and Risky to our Nation. Their statements cannot be allowed to stand. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a subsequent post, he added: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!" He also reposted a declaration that stated: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Democratic Leaders Respond

Following Trump's remarks on Thursday, House Democratic leader issued a combined announcement denouncing the comments.

"Partisan aggression has no place in America," they wrote. "Elected officials who were featured in the video all acted our United States with exceptional national pride and excellence. We clearly censure Donald Trump's disgusting and dangerous calls for execution against elected officials, and appeal to GOP representatives to vigorously do the same."

The opposition officials also stated that they had been in touch with law enforcement "to guarantee the safety of these officials and their relatives."

"Donald Trump must immediately take down these extreme digital publications and retract his aggressive rhetoric before he gets someone killed," the announcement continued.

Officials' Firm Answer

The officials who appeared in the video also issued a statement.

"We identify as ex-military personnel and national security professionals who value this country and made an pledge to protect and support the founding document of the United States," they declared. "This commitment lasts a lifetime, and we plan to honor it. No threat, pressure, or incitement will deter us from that fundamental responsibility."

"The significant point is that the ex-president deems it punishable by execution for us to restate the statutes," they continued. "Military personnel should know that we have their protection as they fulfill their pledge to the founding principles and responsibility to obey only proper directives. It is not only the correct thing to do, but also our responsibility."

They continued: "The entire nation must join forces and condemn the former president's calls for our murder and ideological conflict. This is a period for moral clarity."

Further Partisan Comments

The Senate Democratic leader also censured Trump's statements and posted on online networks: "It's important to understand: the ex-commander in chief is calling for the capital punishment of elected officials."

He continued: "This represents an direct THREAT. Every Senator, all representatives, every American – without partisan consideration – should condemn this immediately and absolutely."

The Conservative official justified Trump's claim that the Democrats had engaged in "treason", describing the video as "extremely improper", adding: "This constitutes very harmful, you have important representatives of the legislature telling soldiers to disobey orders, I think that represents historic in US history."

The GOP official also reportedly told media outlets that in what he reviewed of Trump's messages, Trump was "describing the offense of treason" but that "attorneys have to examine the terminology and decide all that."

Administration Statement

During a executive branch meeting on Thursday afternoon, when inquired by a media member, "Is the president want to put to death elected officials?", the White House press secretary answered: "Certainly not."

"We should understand about what the president is responding to," the official said. "We see current representatives of the federal government who coordinated to organize a video message to members of the American armed forces, to current military personnel urging them to disobey the president's legal commands."

She stated: "The integrity of our armed forces depends on the chain of command, and if that structure is broken, it can cause fatalities, it can lead to disorder, and that's what these elected officials ... are essentially supporting."
