The co-founders of the famous frozen dessert company Ben and Jerry's has announced how corporate owner the multinational conglomerate stopped the introduction of an innovative pro-Palestinian ice cream flavor.

Ben Cohen, who established the business alongside Jerry Greenfield, disclosed how he will personally create this new product as part of a personal series highlighting issues Ben & Jerry's has been prevented from addressing publicly.

Longstanding Conflict Involving Founders versus Parent Company

This latest announcement intensifies the ongoing disagreement between the world-famous ice cream maker and Unilever, the UK-based consumer goods giant that acquired the ice cream brand since 2000.

Both founders have asserted that Unilever and their ice cream division Magnum improperly prevented Ben & Jerry's against "fulfilling its ethical commitments".

The Fruit Sorbet as a Symbol of Support

Mr. Cohen announced via an Instagram video that he's developing a new watermelon-based sorbet, requesting public suggestions regarding the product's name plus additional components.

“I'm doing what they were prevented from doing,” the founder declared from a cooking set. “I'm creating a watermelon-flavored frozen dessert that calls for permanent peace in Palestine and calls for addressing the harm that occurred in the region.”

The watermelon has emerged as an emblem for solidarity with Palestinians due to its coloration, which closely resemble those of Palestine's national banner – red, green, black and white.

Historical Activism plus Recent Changes

Several years ago, Ben & Jerry's ceased sales of their merchandise in territories occupied by Israel, leading to Unilever selling the Israeli operation to a local licensee, thereby permitting ongoing distribution within disputed territories.

This upcoming dessert series is being created through Ben's Best, the socially conscious dessert company that was first established several years back to support former political contender Senator Sanders via the flavor "Bernie's Return".

Management Changes and Future Intentions

The founder revealed that he plans to develop additional ice cream flavors that address issues which the company was prevented from speaking about openly by corporate restrictions.

The announcement follows co-founder Jerry Greenfield resigned from Ben & Jerry's in September, after many years with the organization, mentioning worries that its independence had been compromised after Unilever's decision to restrict their advocacy work.

Previously, Mr. Cohen commented how “My partner has strong compassion and the ongoing dispute with our parent company was breaking it."

“My conscience compels me to continue to work inside the company to advocate for its independence so that the company can fulfill its ethical purpose, the principles which it was founded on and has maintained for over 40 years," he explained to media outlets.
