Arne Slot Insists He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's expected for doubts to be asked about his position after another heavy defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.

Liverpool endured their 9th defeat in 12 matches, representing the club's poorest run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a difficult evening at Anfield.

“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I've received plenty of backing from above,” the coach remarked.

“It would be nice to reverse this trend and earn three points naturally but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it's expected that people question you.”

He noted, “I accept my situation. It is not the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”

Conversations with The Board

When asked to provide details on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:

“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”

He further stated, “In the normal conversations we have I feel the belief. But I've not talked to them since this match yet so it remains to be seen.”

Familiar Problems and Squad Reaction

The manager lamented familiar shortcomings from his team in their Champions League loss, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.

“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder said.

“It is unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”

He continued, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”

“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a phase like this with performances like these.”

He concluded, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And until it is taken away, we’re always going to battle.”

“Our aim is to get this team return to where it needs to be, prove again what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”

“But right now, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
